در این موافقت‌نامه:
(الف) اصطلاح «منطقه مقر» به معنای (۱) محدوده‌ای است که در ضمیمه ۱ به این عنوان تعریف شده است؛ (۲) هر زمین یا ساختمان دیگری که حسب مورد، به موجب موافقت‌نامه تکمیلی با مقامات ذی‌صلاح آمریکایی، در آن گنجانده شود.
(ب) اصطلاح «مقامات ذی‌صلاح آمریکایی» به معنای مقامات فدرال، ایالتی یا محلی ایالات متحده است که با توجه به موضوع و مطابق قوانین و عرف‌های ایالات متحده، از جمله قوانین و عرف‌های دولت ایالتی و محلی ذی‌ربط، صلاحیت دارند.
(ج) اصطلاح «کنوانسیون عمومی» به معنای کنوانسیون مزایا و مصونیت‌های سازمان ملل متحد است که مجمع عمومی سازمان ملل متحد در ۱۳ فوریه ۱۹۴۶ تصویب کرده و ایالات متحده به آن پیوسته است.
(د) اصطلاح «سازمان ملل متحد» به معنای سازمان بین‌المللی تأسیس‌شده به موجب منشور ملل متحد است که از این پس «منشور» نامیده می‌شود.
(ه) اصطلاح «دبیرکل» به معنای دبیرکل سازمان ملل متحد است.
In this agreement:
(a) The expression "headquarters district" means: (۱) the area defined as such in Annex ۱; (۲) any other lands or buildings which may from time to time be included therein by supplemental agreement with the appropriate American authorities;
(b) the expression "appropriate American authorities" means such federal, state, or local authorities in the United States as may be appropriate in the context and in accordance with the laws and customs of the United States, including the laws and customs of the state and local government involved;
(c) the expression "General Convention" means the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations on ۱۳ February ۱۹۴۶, as acceded to by the United States;
(d) the expression "United Nations" means the international organization established by the Charter of the United Nations, hereinafter referred to as the "Charter";
(e) the expression "Secretary-General" means the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
