مجمع عمومی نسبت به امور زیر موجبات انجام مطالعات و صدور توصیههایی را فراهم میکند:
الف- ترویج همکاری بینالمللی در امور سیاسی و تشویق توسعه تدریجی حقوق بینالملل وتدوین آن.
ب – ترویج همکاری بینالمللی در رشتههای اقتصادی، اجتماعی، فرهنگی، آموزشی و بهداشتی و کمک به تحقق حقوق بشر و آزادیهای اساسی برای همه بدون بعیض از حیث نژاد، جنس، زبان و مذهب.
۲- سایر مسئولیتها- وظایف و اختیارات مجمع عمومی در مورد امور مذکور در شق ب بند یک این ماده در فصول نهم و دهم بیان شده است.
۱. The General Assembly shall initiate studies and make recommendations for the purpose of:
a) promoting international co-operation in the political field and encouraging the progressive development of international law and its codification;
b) promoting international co-operation in the economic, social, cultural, educational, and health fields, and assisting in the realization of human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion.
۲. The further responsibilities, functions and powers of the General Assembly with respect to matters mentioned in paragraph ۱ (b) above are set forth in Chapters IX and X.
