۱- شورای اقتصادی و اجتماعی در اجرای توصیههای مجمع عمومی وظایفی را که در حیطه صلاحیت آن شورا است انجام میدهد.
۲- شورای اقتصادی و اجتماعی میتواند با تصویب مجمع عمومی خدماتی را که اعضای ملل متحد و موسسات تخصصی از آن شورا بخواهند انجام دهد.
۳- شورای اقتصادی و اجتماعی وظایف دیگری را که در قسمتهای دیگر این منشور به عهده آن واگذار شده است یا ممکن است توسط مجمع عمومی بدان محول شود انجام میدهد.

۱. The Economic and Social Council shall perform such functions as fall within its competence in connection with the carrying out of the recommendations of the General Assembly.
۲. It may, with the approval of the General Assembly, perform services at the request of Members of the United Nations and at the request of specialized agencies.
۳. It shall perform such other functions as are specified elsewhere in the present Charter or as may be assigned to it by the General Assembly.
